For vehicle operators fresh out of the schoolhouse, you may not have been taught about the importance of taking exhaust samples. While they serve no practical purpose as far as vehicle operation is concerned, they serve to let you know that you don’t really know shit and you better keep on your toes or you’ll end up with burning eyes and hacking up a lung after you’ve inhaled a hazardous amount of exhaust fumes. The process involves taking a trash bag and holding it over the exhaust port while someone else revs the vehicle and black diesel smoke goes everywhere but inside the bag.
